The elements of the Dúnedain of the North are former knights of the War of the Ring.
The Rangers of the North, also known as the Dúnedain of the North, were the descendants of the Dúnedain from the lost kingdom of Arnor. Their menfolk ceaselessly patrolled the boundaries of Eriador and were by necessity skilled with the sword, bow and spear.
The Dúnedain, especially those of high rank, possessed great wisdom and discernment, and occasional prophecy. They benefited from longer life-spans (three times the life of a regular man) than ordinary men and could retain their youth until the very end of their days. Though the reason is not fully explained in the 'Tale of the Years', one factor that almost certainly contributed to their numerical decline was an extremely low birth rate, with many couples having only one child.
During the War of the Ring, the Dúnedain of the North were led by Aragorn, but the northern Dúnedain were a dwindling and presumably widely scattered folk: when Halbarad received a message to gather as many of the Rangers as he could and lead them south to Aragorn’s aid, only thirty men (the Grey Company) were available at short notice for the journey.
Due to not having enough Dúnedain warrior sto face the danger of the army of Sauron, and they can not meet the request for help Aragorn, the Dúnedain had to recruit several fearless warriors of all races of Middle-earth to their ranks .
Thus, the Rangers thrived and succeeded in fight the armies of Sauron in many battles . Shortly thereafter with the confidence in leadership skills of the Rangers, now garrisoned by various races of the Middle-earth, they extended the assistance to the four corners of Middle-earth, leading various fighting fronts, there by protecting the Free-people against the terror of Sauron.
The Rangers fought side by side for freedom of all peoples, thus became a Brotherhood of Races, the Brotherhood of Rangers, the Brotherhood of the Dúnedain.
The Rangers were grim in life, appearance, and dress, choosing to wear rusty green and brown.
The Rangers of the Grey Company were dressed in dark grey cloaks and openly wore a silver brooch shaped like a pointed star during the War of the Ring. These Rangers rode rough-haired, sturdy horses, were helmeted and carried shields. Their armament included spears and bows. Like their distant cousins, the Rangers of Ithilien, the Rangers of the North spoke Sindarin (or some variation of it) in preference to the Common Speech. They were led by a Chieftain, whose ancestry could be traced back to Elendil and beyond, to the ancient Kings of Númenor.
The Dúnedain (singular: Dúnadan, "man of the west") were a race of Men descended from the Númenóreans who survived the sinking of their island kingdom and came to Eriador in Middle-earth, led by Elendil and his sons, Isildur and Anárion. They are also called the Men of the West and the Men of Westernesse (direct translations of the Sindarin term). They settled mainly in Arnor and Gondor.
The Dúnedain were superior to other Men in nobility of spirit and body, although they were still capable of evil if corrupted, and tended to do more evil in such circumstances. They were tall, with dark hair, pale skin and grey eyes.
The chain of Evil has split, however, there remains a possibility that a new Sauron will come. And us kinship of the Dúnedain of the North will be ready expecting him.
“The Lord of the Rings” story is full of fantasy, which is based on mythological and historical traditions with a grain of magic. “The Lord of the Rings” is not only a tale of enthralling adventures and mythical beings, but it also touches upon some questions of philosophy and morality. Heroic deeds, the unity for the sake of a common cause, true love, the triumph of Good over Evil. Rivendell and Lorien, which are the strongholds of Good, in contrast Mordor is an abode of Evil.
Hard life in Middle-earth during the War of the Ring reflects hard life in reality. We has to believe that countless armies do not always decide the outcome of the battle, and that only one can conquer alone. The struggle with different personifications of Evil is eternal. The War of the Ring is a small part of this struggle. But Evil has always been and will remain in Middle-earth as well as in real life. “The Lord of the Rings” teaches us to be humane, to follow the principles of valour and moral. It is both sympathy and humanity that prevent Bilbo from killing Gollum, who played a crucial role in the destroying of the Ring. Good is not revengeful. It strives to get justice and will never shoot an arrow into the back of the Enemy. We cannot say that everything ends extremely well. Old wounds won’t leave us in peace like Frodo.
